A New Day

Just stay one day ahead of yesterday.
~ Proverb

When all is failing.. when resources give way... when support dissipates... when the world seems against you and all you do.. remember the most precious gift you have been given.  You can believe and have faith that you will be given a new day, each day.  Forget the past.  Let go of what you have no power to change.  Clinging to regrets impedes your action in the future.  Focus on right now.  Take joy in the newness and the grace that you are given at the start of each day.

Music Monday: Release

Music has the unique power to bring us to an awareness of our feelings in an unfettered way.  Somehow it is acceptable to shed tears while listening to a Mahler symphony, the same tears we suppress when confronted with our own or another's pain.  Music informs us that we are creatures of feeling, that our feelings are valid, that there is nothing wrong about experiencing them.
Joanne Crandall, Self-Transformation through Music

Diffcult feelings that remain locked beneath the surface of our daily actions can increasingly block our true selves.  Even worse, we may begin to so identify with the feelings that we are withholding, that we begin to characterise these feelings as who we are, more than the feelings of our harmonious self.  Music is a potent vehicle for releasing these feelings that we normally filter either out of being polite, maintaining the peace, or even being fearful that by expressing them we might emotionally fall apart.

What is your music for emotional release?  Allow this music to be part of your cleansing process.  Listen to it a little louder than you might normally.  Feel it in your deepest self... and allow it to let your silenced voice speak.

Uncharted

When you have come to the edge of all light that you know
And are about to drop of into the darkness of the unknown;
Faith is knowing one of two things will happen:
There will be something solid to stand on
Or you will be taught to fly.
~Patrick Overton

Ever embarked on on a new adventure?  Gone somewhere new in your life?  Done something that you haven't had a model or a manual for?   It is stresssssssssssssssssssful!  Isn't it?  You feel like you are floundering about and trying to take act thoughtfully.  You are putting in your research, and putting in your effort.  And still there are those people who stand on the sidelines.. not really clear what your mission is, not aware of all the details.. putting their two cents in.. and sometimes not very nicely!  Add to it all that self talk you already have... somewhere along the lines of  "Why the heck are you doing this?  You're not capable!  You don't know enough!  You don't have what it takes!"  How do you keep your motivation going?  How do you keep up the pace despite all those fears from within and those projected on to you?  How do you trust the process?

Surround yourself with those who know and love the real you.

Focus on the feedback of those with experience and expertise.

Make a daily practice of taking in inspiration -- from books, from the internet, from other people.

Accept mistakes as part of the journey.  Life is an experiment!

Trust in your ability to work through the obstacles.. and accept nothing less.

Bon voyage!

Dedicate yourself to the good you deserve and desire for yourself.
Give yourself peace of mind.
You deserve to be happy.
You deserve delight.
~Hannah Arendt

Oh, man have I been in a winter slump!  Have you?  Exhausted after the holidays, it's so easy for the blahs to set in.  This week I was given the wonderful advice to take the tasks that are most challenging me and do whatever I can to make them fun.. turn on fun music, laugh, dance, whatever I need to do!  So that's, what this challenge is all about.. finding joy!  So get out your paints, crayons, your pencils, your musical instruments.. whatever the tools are for your medium for creation and interpret delight for us!  Please email your pictures, poems, photos, or performances to friendsinhealing@gmail.com by Thursday, February 4 at 12 pm CST time.  The gallery will be posted on this site later that day.  If you publish a blog, please give me the link so it can be shared along with your work!
