Solitude

Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self. ~ May Sarton

I am very blessed to be able to spend time each day in solitude. What's amazing is that I am just as busy as I was when I worked a conventional job.. yet growing more and more fulfilled each day. How do you find solitude in your life? If you could schedule a half a day to do anything just by yourself, what would you do?

On this day in 1912, May Sarton was born. Need ideas for solitude activities? Read her daily journals about daily life which she refers to as "the sacramentalization of ordinary life."

Enthusiasm

At moments of great enthusiasm it seems to me that no one in the world has ever made something this beautiful and important. ~ M.C. Escher
.

I got the idea for this from a painted parasol tutorial on Alisa Burke's blog. I changed it up a bit by painting the entire parasol like a canvas, spattering, and doing multiple layers of decoration on top. If you haven't stopped by Alisa's page before, do so now! She is an amazing artist and I learned so much from her last spring when I took her Grafitti Chic online art class.

A painted paper parasol probably isn't the most utilitarian item.. but the beauty it brings to a room is a breath of freshness. What are your enthusiastic about today?

Happiness

Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

This is an upcycled wooden candle base found in a thrift store. I love making old things new... it's good for our earth and it helps me make art that is affordable to everyone. It may be used as a candle base or spare change collector.
